Herman C. Rutherford, age 92 of Bristol, VA passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at home.

He is a native of Washington County, Virginia and a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp. He was a retired employee of Mason Dixon Trucking Company with 33 years of service. He attended the Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Booher Rutherford; brother, J.B. Rutherford and a sister, Rema Walker.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Geiger of Bristol, VA; one son, Gary Rutherford and wife, Eva of Bristol, VA; two sisters, Pauline Yates of Bristol, VA and Dota Lee Hunt of Taramac, FL; two brothers, Jack Rutherford of Bristol, VA and Troy “T.R.” Rutherford, Jr. and wife, Joan of Bluff City, TN; three grandsons, Steve Sproles of Richmond, VA; Kevin Sproles and wife, Matoka of Jonesboro, TN and Eric Rutherford and wife, Holly of Abingdon, VA; one granddaughter, Beth Young and husband, David of Johnson City, TN; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family requests the memorial gifts be made to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele’s Rd., Bristol, TN 37620

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 5, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Thomas Quickel officiating. Committal Service and Entombment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Abingdon, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Friday prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home.
