Joan Lee Cox, age 72, of Bristol, VA passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 15, 1937 to the late James and Mildred Cornelius. She was a retired secretary of Bristol Metals.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. “ Jim” Cox.

Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Mumpower and husband, Troy of Bristol, TN and two grandsons, Tommy Childress and Sam Pippin.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the responding Bristol, VA Life Saving Crew and the BRMC emergency room nurses and doctors who made Mrs. Cox last hours comfortable. Also to all who prayed and were there when we needed comforted.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Monday, February 8, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Carico officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Monday prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home.
