Edith Leonard Barker, age 86, of Bristol, TN passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in the Cambridge House.

She was born April 22, 1923 in Washington County, VA and was the oldest daughter of the late Claude Clinton and Carrie Fleenor Leonard. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blountville and a 50 year member of Blountville/Border City Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Barker; a sister, Hazel Davis of Nashville, TN and a brother, Harvey Leonard of Bristol, TN.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Donald Barker and wife, June Marie of Signal Mountain, TN; daughter, Diane Castle and husband, Delmer of Bristol, TN; brothers, Harold Leonard and wife, Dottie Jean of Bluff City, TN and Marshall Leonard of Bristol, TN; sister, Louise Bright and husband, Hershel of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Kelly Barker and Alan Gravitt of Chattanooga, TN; Dr. Andrew Barker and wife, Nicole of St. Louis, MO/Memphis, TN; Matthew Barker and wife, Sarah of Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren, Abigail Barker and Alivia Gravitt; two step-grandchildren, Matthew Akers of Bristol, TN and Ashley Akers of Church Hill, TN and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to special caregivers, Matthew Akers and Kimberly Atchley; nurses Kelly Lambert and Sandra Campbell of Genitva Health Care and the nurses and staff of the Cambridge House.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Blountville, P.O. Box 587, Blountville, TN 37617.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Blountville with Dr. Clay Austin officiating. The committal service will follow in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel and interment in Shelby Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Akard Funeral Home.
