Clara Wade Smith, age 96, of Bristol, TN passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Wellmont Hospice House.

She was born on May 3, 1913 in Bristol, VA to Robert Sidney and Sarah Elizabeth Rutter Wade.
A graduate of Virginia High School and Bristol Business College, she worked for many years in the office of Mary Grey Hosiery Mills and later worked in the office of the Chancery Court Clerk in Bristol, TN. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William J. (Bill) Smith; her brothers, Roy, Rought, Austin, Alton, Albert, Ernest and Lawrence; her sisters, Addie Everett, Katherine Williams and Frances Brock.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Willis and husband, Doyle of Bristol, TN; two granddaughters, Michelle Snyder and husband, Steve of Blountville, TN and Leslie Greene and husband, Jeff of Bristol, TN four great-grandchildren, Seth and Sydney Snyder and Cody and Connor Greene and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to those members of the Hospice House who so lovingly cared for our mother/grandmother…. You are the BEST!

In lieu of flowers, lasting tributes to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele’s Rd. Bristol, TN 37620 would be appreciated.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M., Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Greene and Rev. Marty Greene officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Friday in Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. – 7:15 P.M., prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home.
