Hattie Lee Cowan

On April 11, 2010, Hattie Cowan, age 90, moved from her home of many years in Bristol, Tennessee, to join her Savior and loved ones that had gone before.

She was a member of Bradley Street Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Janie Vernon Bowers; one sister, Ada Hess; daughter-in-law, Jane Beeler Teaster; son-in-law, Jack Honaker and nephews, Bill Smith and Jay Pyatte.

Survivors include son, Ray Teaster of Crawford, Georgia; daughter, Charlotte Norman and her husband James Norman of Bristol, Tennessee; six granddaughters: Jackie (James) Davis of Abingdon, Virginia; Susan (Michael) Kohari of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Laurie (Greg) Tolbert of Athens, Georgia; Jan (Jeff) Wiggins of Lilburn, Georgia; Jo (Keith) Holloman of Crawford, Georgia; and Stacey (Kevin) Gordon of Hull, Georgia; twelve great- grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren.

Hattie had many special people in her life including her nieces and nephews Jim and Glenna Smith of Bristol, Tennessee; and Barbara Pyatte of Clarksville, Tennessee. Other special people include Bud and Jean Oliver, Clarence and Nora Lee, and Ronnie and Rhonda Durham of Bristol, Tennessee.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with her former pastor, Rev. Gary Garland and Pastor Sam Haynes of New Grace Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers include James Davis, Michael Kohari, Greg Tolbert, Jeff Wiggins, Keith Holloman, and Kevin Gordon. All are husbands of Hattie’s granddaughters. Honorary pallbearers include: Monty Stirman, M.D., William Bell, M.D., Fred Overbay, Frank Leslie, Bill (Bucky) Buchanan, Don Gibson, Robert Trivette, and Jeff Trivette. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, April 13 at Akard Funeral Home.
