William Lee Goodman

William Lee Goodman, age 101, of Bristol, VA passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Wellmont Hospice House surrounded by his family.

He was born October 2, 1908 in Sullivan County to the late Winn and Nancy Alice Harr Goodman.

He was retired from Unysis. He was a great gardener and loved his farming. He was the oldest member of McIver-Memorial Presbyterian Church.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Savanah Clark Goodman; a son, William Boyce Goodman; two sons-in-law, Wayne Ketron and Ike Crabtree; one daughter-in-law, Henrietta Goodman; two brothers, Jim Goodman and Jake Goodman; five sisters, Clair Cross, Mattie Johnson, Cleo Curtis, Bertie Hughes and Rhelda Stine; two grandson and one great-grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Goodman of Bristol, TN and Darel Goodman and wife, Virginia of Hoganville, GA; three daughters, Louise Ketron of Bristol, VA; Doris Crabtree of Abingdon, VA and Carolyn Pruett and husband, Jerry of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; one daughter-in-law, Charlence Goodman of Aiken, SC; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Tom Green, Jr., for his dedication to the Goodman family. The family also wishes to thank Cathy Jones, Rhonda Dutton and Becky Fullen with Advance Home Care and Tracey Cullop and Patricia York with Wellmont Hospice for their love and compassion to the entire family.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Chapman. The committal service will be at 1:00 P.M., Sunday in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and granddaughters. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Saturday at Akard Funeral Home.
