Joyce Burk Slagle, age 80, of Bristol, TN passed away, Monday, May 31, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 2, 1929 in Bristol, VA, the daughter of the late Dent K. and Kathrine Nininger Burk. She lived all of her life in the Bristol area.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph “Joe” Slagle, Jr.; sister, Beverly Logan; brother, Benjamin Burk and loving son-in-law, Gerald Cole.

Joyce spent her life loving the Holston River and South Holston Lake. She and her husband, Joe owned and operated Lake View Dock. Her other passion was her family.

Her memory will be cherished by her son, Tom Slagle and wife, Delma; daughter, Jane Cole; and son, John Slagle and wife, Julie; grandchildren, Niki Hillman and husband, Jeff; Andy Cole and wife, Amanda; Matt Slagle and wife, Tiffany; Alison Slagle, Joe and Jake Slagle; four great-granddaughters; brother, Richard Burk and sister, Sylvia Burk.

The family would like to thank Fresenius Dialysis Center of Kingsport and Lisa Sproles of Wellmont Home Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A private graveside service is planned. There will be no visitation.
