Carrie Julie Baker Horne, 97, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 26, 2010 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee and had been a resident of Big Stone Gap, VA before moving to Blountville, TN in 1987.

Mrs. Horne was a registered nurse for 40 years having graduated from Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. She was a member of the Blountville United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late John and Eliza Hurst Baker and was also preceded in death by her husband, Vincent H. Horne, who passed away on December 26, 1994 and five brothers, Albert Baker, Herbert Baker, Earl Baker, Benny “Ed” Baker and Jess Baker and two sisters, Irene Graham and Margaret Faye Fleenor.

She was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, aunt and friends. She will be missed by all who know her.

Surviving are her brother, Paul Baker and wife, Retha of Big Stone Gap, VA; brother-in-law, Jack Fleenor of Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Joan King of Johnson City, TN; her church family and close friends and neighbors.

The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Murphy officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday at Akard Funeral Home.
