Roy Douglas “Doug” Bowman, 62, of Bristol, VA went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Wellmont Hospice House.

He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and the son of the late Daniel Bowman and Mary Ellen Vickers Bowman. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl “Jim” Bowman and Calvin “Dee” Bowman.

He was a retired employee of Raytheon and was currently an associate realtor with R& R Realty and Auctioneers.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam era and a member of Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post # 6975 and Hackler-Wood American Legion Post #145. He was a member and attended Campground United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sisters: Ruby Hughes; Shirley Boothe and husband, Tom; and Wanda Hawks and husband, Ronnie, all of Bristol, VA; three brothers: Fred Bowman and wife, Diane; Wayne Bowman; and Danny Bowman and wife, Teresia, all of Bristol, VA; one sister-in-law; Hazel Bowman, of Bristol, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele’s Rd., Bristol, TN 37620.

The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M., Thursday, July 29, 2010 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith McGrew officiating. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday at Mountain View Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Gill, Sherman Pippin, Van Roark, Verlin Dean, Charlie Spence and Eric “Tiny” Jacobs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home.
