Betty Jean Edwards Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Jean Edwards, 88, of Bristol VA, died at home on May 15. She was born in Clinchco Virginia on September 11, 1933, to Mollie Ethel Anderson Mullins and Garland Fred Mullins. Betty married the love of her life, Robert Grey Edwards (Bob), on February 8, 1953. They had four children, Jena, Rob, Mike and MIssy born during Bob’s Air Force career, as they moved through postings in Washington DC, Bermuda, Charleston SC and Maryland. She was a strong, loving and tough Mom while raising the three older children by herself as Bob was very often on trips with Military Air Transport. She always encouraged and supported her children in their education and careers. Their love of reading and learning is because of her. She was an incredible cook and all of her children got that from her too. Betty was a strong and steadfast Christian and an avid volunteer, working with Bob for Meals on Wheels and many other volunteer agencies. She made wonderful friends during her time with Meals on Wheels. Bob and Betty were devoted members of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol for 25 years. In addition to being the greatest Mom ever, she was an incredible grandma to her grandchildren Jessamyn, Joshua, Ariel, Seth and Hannah, and great grands, Irie, Oliver, Francesca, Ava and Molly. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband Bob and one surviving brother, Larry Mullins as well as her children and grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 12, Noon, on Thursday, May 19, 2022 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Price officiating. Burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday At Mountain National Home Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 P.M., Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Isaiah 117 House in Bristol, P.O.
