Betty Mae Blackburn Hayes

Betty Mae Blackburn Hayes, age 87, of Bristol, TN passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Dominion Senior Living in Bristol, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Nell Leftwich Blackburn; her husband, Isaac Jerome Hayes and sisters, Claris Dean Hayes and Patricia Blackburn. Betty enjoyed playing the piano, singing and was an avid Bible reader. She attended Cross Park Church in Bristol, TN and was a wonderful Christian lady all her life. She truly personified the virtuous woman as mentioned in Proverbs 31:10 and all her children and family adored her. Survivors include her daughter, Diana Mitchem and husband, Billy; four sons, Perry Hayes and wife, Carol; Leroy Hayes and wife, Sheila; Stephen Hayes and wife, Carolyn and Ken Hayes and wife, Rebecca; four sisters, Phyllis Jones, Wanda Bishop, Sclean Atha and Sue Muncy; four grandchildren, Michelle Barrett and husband, John, Jeremy Hayes, Seth Hayes and Joshua Hayes and wife, Patricia; six great-grandchildren, Hobie Dowell, Saylor Dowell, Faith Hayes, Amelia Hayes, Joanna Hayes and Olivia Hayes and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Betty’s caregivers, Brenda Stacy and Sue Puckett and also to the staff of Dominion Senior Living. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Friday, December 14, 2018 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tony Thompson officiating and Pastor Darrell Martin assisting. The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday in Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Hayes, Darrell Stacy, Pastor Arthur Collins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Friday prior to the service.
