Betty Fain Mullins, age 83, of Bristol, VA passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Rex-Apex Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Apex, Wake County, NC. She was born June 6, 1933 in Avondale, McDowell County, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant Fain and Virgie Lee Whittaker Fain; her brothers, Hartley (Tag) Fain, Raymond Everett Fain, Leslie E. Fain, Hubert Edwin Fain; her sisters, Genevea Fain, and Clara Marie Fain Morgan; and her husband, Doliver Mullins. She is survived by her daughter, Donita Mullins Bulkley and husband Jay; son, Jeffrey Dean Mullins and wife, Kathy; grandsons, Bryan Matthew Bulkley and wife, Samantha; Davis Andrew Bulkley and wife, Viktoria; and Jeffrey Whittaker Mullins; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved dearly. Betty was known to all her friends and family as a loving Christian woman. She was proud to be able to tell people that she was a coal-miner’s daughter. Betty graduated from Iaeger High School, Iaeger, WV in 1948. After high school, she briefly taught school in McDowell County and was married to the love of her life, Doliver Mullins, for 40 years. Though heartbroken at his death, she lived for her Lord, her family, extended family, and friends the remainder of her life. She continued to serve her community through her church, North Bristol Baptist, and with the Bristol Senior Show Choir. Once she could no longer live alone, she shared time with her daughter, Donita, in Kentucky and her son, Jeff, in North Carolina. While saddened at their loss of such a precious mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend, the family feels blessed that she is no longer suffering and has gone Home to be with her Heavenly Father and all the loved ones who have awaited her arrival. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Elizabeth and Gary Houser; Max and Gina Lawson; a multitude of friends; and to Transitions Life Care of Wake County NC. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 9, 2017 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Moor officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan Bulkley, Davis Bulkley, Whitt Mullins and Max Lawson. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday at the funeral home.
