Daisy Martin Kristofek, born January 20, 1925 to the Harry Benton and Edith Mallory Martin in Valley Falls, KS and passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Cambridge House. She went to Rock Creek Kansas High School, taught elementary schools in Kansas in 1940s, attended Baker University in Baldwin, KS; earned a B.A. degree from the University of Kansas and received a graduate school scholarship to State University of Iowa from which she received her Master of Science degree. She was a registered dietician, worked at Kings Mountain, Bristol Memorial and Johnson City Memorial Hospitals and Johnson City Medical Center, proctored potential dieticians and dietetic technicians, taught 20 years at Sullins College and retired as Director of the Dietetic Department at Johnson City Medical Center in 1987. She was the recipient of the Victor B. Colby Outstanding Educator Award and the Outstanding Educator of America Award. Daisy was also listed in the Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who among American Women and Women of the World. She served on the East Tennessee State University Advisory Committee and was a member of the Board of Directors for Sullins College and Mountain States Health Alliance. Daisy was a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church and had been active in United Methodist Women. Previously, she had been a Cub Scout leader and a member of University Women, local, state and national dietetic associations as well as other professional groups. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kristofek; a daughter, Jacqueline Boothe; two sisters, Glena May Bolz and Rose Ann Stabb and four brothers, Gorby, Burley, Nelson and Chalmer Martin. Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Rambarran and Margaret Hilton and husband, James Gale Hilton; one son, Andrew Kristofek, II and wife, Linda; one son-in-law, Don Boothe; grandchildren, Keely, Hunter and Miranda Hilton, Zak Kristofek, Jill Boothe Arnold and Donnie Boothe; great-grandchildren, Sierra Arnold and Dillon Boothe; sisters-in-law, Jule Harlen, Linda Martin and Marilyn Martin plus numerous nieces and nephews. Care, compassion and kindness of current and former healthcare providers was greatly appreciated. The funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Monday in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas “Chris” O’Connor, Greg Gilbert, Phil Gilbert, Larry Greer, Joseph Jackson, David Browning, Chas W. Locke, Dean Owens and Mark Byington. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Hamilton, Jack Hamilton, Claude “Stooky” Crockett, Chris Crockett, Chuck Crockett, Robbie Payne, William Thomas, Garden Lane and Leisure Park Friends, Larry Waddell, Mark Hudson, Ed Wampler, Gary Varner, O.H. “Pete” Peters, Greg Hall and Dan Ball. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 6:00 P.M., Sunday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, 327 W.
