Dwayne Edwin Cooke

October 7, 1937 - February 22, 2022

Dwayne Edwin Cooke, age 84, of Bristol, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. He was born in Honaker, VA to the late D.M. and Nola Cooke. Left to cherish Dwayne’s memory are his wife of 57 years, Gwen J. Cooke; daughter, Kim Hinner and husband Brett of Martinez, GA; two grandchildren, Craig Hinner and wife Meagan of Chamblee, GA and Kayla Nolan and husband Kyle of Sandy Springs, GA; one great-grandson, Reed Hinner, who arrived less than three hours before Dwayne passed; sister, Sue Osborne; numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends. Dwayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. For many years, he owned Dwayne Cooke Quality Cars, and for over fifty years, he has owned Tennessee Investment Casting Company. Dwayne loved people and would do anything for a friend in need. Some of his best times were spent at NASCAR tracks in his R.V. sitting around with his buddies telling tall tales. He loved a good, funny story and some pickin’ and singin’. Most of all, Dwayne cherished his family. He was a role model to many. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire Memory Care staff who cared for him for the past thirty months. Dwayne appreciated each and every one of you and all that you did for him. Not only did he express his gratitude to you, but he also told the family of your compassion and kindness that you showed him each and every day. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, February 27, 2022 in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M., Sunday prior to the service.
