Frances Helen Stewart Melvin

Frances Helen Stewart Melvin, age 93, died August 29 2015. She was born May 26, 1922 to Isom and Maggie Stewart. Frances graduated from Cleveland High School. She was a native of Sullivan County but lived most of her life in Washington County, VA. Frances was a member of East End Christian Church and a long time member of High Point Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband of 68 years, John Melvin,Jr. she was preceded in death by one son, Wayne (Rowdy); daughter–in-law, Nancy Melvin, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one sister, Alice Sandoe of Bristol, VA; two sons: James E. “Jim” Melvin and wife, Clara, John “Jay” Melvin, III and wife, Sally; two daughters: Carol Melvin of Greensboro, NC, and Patsy Yvonne Brice and husband, John of Stanley, NC; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Melvin Keen of Bristol, TN; grandchildren: Jamie Melvin and wife, Kimberly, Susan Vannoy, Matthew Melvin, Brady Melvin, Stacy Melvin and wife, Sarah Ellen, Rachel Barnett and husband, Jeff, Travis Melvin, Jessica Brice Love and husband, Jeremy; thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at NHC of Bristol. Those desiring to do so may make memorials to High Point Cemetery Association in care of Russ Peters, 24132 Crimson Drive, Bristol, VA. 24202 The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Monday, August 31, 2015 at Akard Funeral Home.The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at High Point Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Allen Baldwin officiating. The committal and interment will follow the service at High Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jamie Melvin, Brady Melvin, Stacy Melvin, Matthew Melvin and Travis Melvin.
