Dr. Jim Geiger

December 13, 1939 - February 19, 2018

Dr. Jim Geiger, 78, of Bristol, VA., passed away on February 19, 2018, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born December 13th, 1939 in Bristol, VA. He is the son of the late Fred and Clara Geiger. Born and raised in Bristol, he had a passion for the area and ensuring the children of the region would be provided with endless opportunities. Jim was a member of the local Boys and Girls Club as a child and had numerous life altering experiences through his relationships there. Because of the impact the club had on his life, he wanted to ensure other children would also have similar opportunities. After years of hard work on behalf of the organization, he was awarded the status of life time member of the Boys and Girls Club. In addition to serving many other charitable organizations, Jim was an avid educator and basketball coach at John Battle High School as well as the Professor Emeritus at Virginia Highlands Community College. He is an alumnus of King College, and he received his doctorate at Virginia Tech University. He also served as an Elder at Central Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years, Mary Boyd Geiger, of Bristol, Va., his daughter Amy Morris and her husband, Ben, of Bristol, TN.; two grandchildren, Blakeleigh and Kane Mathes; his brother-in-law, Peyton Boyd; Special Aunt Edna Campbell; Special cousins Joe McNish, Mike and Sandy Campbell, and Mike and Lewis Hale; and several other cousins in the area. A celebration of life will take place at 2:30, Thursday, February 22nd with visitation to follow at Central Presbyterian Church. Dr. Frank and Rev. Ann Aichinger will be officiating. The committal service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of the Mountain Empire, 311 Rebecca Street, Bristol, VA. 24201, or the Service Fund at Central Presbyterian Church, 301 Euclid Ave. Bristol, VA. 24201.
