Joan Elizabeth Mullin

Joan Elizabeth Mullin, age 71, of Abingdon, VA, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at NHC Bristol.She was native of Boston, MA and has lived in the Northeast, TN/Southwest, VA area since 1990. She was a Nurse Practitioner at Twin City Medical until her retirement and was also a former health occupations teacher at Virginia High School as well as a former Nursing Professor at ETSU and King University. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. She was passionate about her family, genealogy, animals, traveling, teaching, helping her patients, and many other things.She was preceded in death by her parents, James Mullin and Pauline Steele; her step-fathers James Cherry and Max Steele; and her brother, Jack Mullin; as well as her brother-in-law, Roger Vaught.Survivors include her daughters, Heather Hatfield and husband Michael of Glade Spring, VA and Dani Darasz and her husband Zach of Boston, MA; grandchildren Amira Lowe, Eva Darasz, Isla Hatfield, and Declan Darasz; brothers and sister, Jim Mullin, Kevin Mullin and wife Diane, Bill Mullin, Marianne Vaught, Brian Mullin and wife Viki, Paul Mullin and wife Celine, and Sean Cherry; nieces and nephews, Jason O’Keefe and wife Marielle, Jimmy Mullin and wife Amy, Laina Pruett and husband Jared, Angela Shamblin and husband Greg, Elicia Basoli and husband Dan, Malissa Mullin, Jackie Rogers and husband Michael, Stephanie Harding and husband Chris, Cristina Mullin, Taylor Mullin, Nicole Mullin, Andrea Mullin, and Gabriel Mullin; grandnieces and grandnephews, Elsie, James, John, Matthew, Aurora, Sophia, Felicity, Collin, Mona, Max, Mya, Kacey, Brendon, Alaina, Benjamin, Jocelyn, and Owen.The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at NHC Bristol for providing care to Joan throughout the last 10 years. Thank you for showing her so much love and compassion and making her feel at home while she was struggling with her health.The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 24, 2023, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Akard Funeral Home and from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, prior to the service, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to a local animal spay/neuter and vaccine clinic as this was one of Joan’s greatest passions and loves. Margaret B.
