Lavonne West, age 73, of Bristol, VA passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Maxie Cantrell Mullins; a grandson, Allan Head and one sister, Faye Felts. She was a retired legal secretary working for Wendell Jackson and Frank Slaughter. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Bill West; two daughters, Robin Chittum and husband, Jon of Bristol, TN and Jayne Head and husband, Scot of Hendersonville, TN; one sister, Lois Theodore; three grandchildren, Autumn Cope and husband, Jeremy; Ashley Quales and husband, Ben and Grayson Head; four great-grandchildren, Chancie, Kaydin, Aubree and Gabriel and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Luther Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jon Chittum, Ben Quales, Jeremy Cope, Scot Head, Tony Brewer and Linville Benton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Saturday at Akard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at The Vanderbilt Eye Institute, 2311 Pierce Ave., Nashville, TN 37232 in memory of her grandson. Bill and the rest of the family - Frank and I are so sorry to hear of Lavonne's passing. We cherish our times that we shared with both of you. we will always treasure the memories we have of our trips with the UPS retirees to the cabins in the smoky mountains . Vonnie was always a very loving friend.
