May 20, 1926 - May 11, 2018
Mary Jane Biddle, age 91, met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, South Carolina. Mary Jane was born May 20, 1926, to TL and Pearl Grow in Bristol, Tennessee. She and her family came to faith in Christ at a tent revival in 1937. The Bristol Wesleyan Methodist Church was born out of that meeting and Jane was a vital part of that ministry from the beginning to the end. Her greatest joy was serving as a Sunday School teacher, although she was involved in much more. She was faithful to her faith and her God from 1937 until the day she was welcomed into her eternal home, and her influence for godliness will live on in those who were privileged to know her. She is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with her many loved ones and though we miss her terribly, we know she’s right where she wants to be – with Jesus! Jane graduated from Tennessee High School in 1944, and having come up in the depression and war days, she had learned the value of hard work. She went to work for Nickels Manufacturing Company in 1945 and worked there until it closed. After that, she became bookkeeper for the Sullivan County News, where she also wrote the weekly “Granny’s Cookbook” recipe column for many years. She was a brilliant woman who easily made the transition from manual accounting to computer systems when she moved to the accounting office at Bristol Newspapers after most people her age were already retired. She enjoyed a long working career and after retiring in 2000, became a volunteer at the Sullivan County Archives where she spent many happy hours indexing and filing loose county records. She leaves behind her daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Isbell and husband Jesse of Irmo, SC; daughter-in-law, Della Biddle; grandchildren Natalie McPherson, Nathan Isbell, Clara Isbell, and Levi Biddle; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son Larry Biddle, grandsons Aaron Biddle and Chad Miller and great grandson Ashton Poole. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
