Corba Stollings Carter, age 98, formerly of Chapmanville, WV passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Oakmont at Gordon Park in Bristol, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Myrtle Conley Stollings; husband of 65 years, Sam Carter; sister, Lenore Stollings Stevens; five brothers, Curtis Stollings, Marshal “Bo” Stollings, Willis “Pete” Stollings, Hershel Stollings and Tom Stollings. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Corba was a hardworking, smart and funny woman. She was always ready with a joke or prank and loved to laugh. She loved her home and took great pride in keeping it maintained. She was a longtime member of the Chapmanville Church of Christ. In her last years, she lived at Oakmont at Gordon Park Assisted Living where she made many friends and received wonderful loving care. Survivors include her son, Charles T. Carter and wife, Peggy of Bristol, VA; granddaughters, Vannessa Carter and husband, Kim of Charleston, SC and Angela Link and husband, Eddie of Roanoke, VA; four great-granddaughters, Carter Butkus and husband, Patrick of Atlanta, GA; Warner McClure and husband, John of Atlanta, GA; Allison Link of Charlotte, NC and Meredith Link of Roanoke, VA; great-great-grandsons, Wade Charles and Samuel Patrick Butkus of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Shirley Mullins and husband, Larry of Chapmanville, WV and Elizabeth Miller and husband, Charles of Louisville, KY. The family would like to express special gratitude to Oakmont at Gordon Park and Hillary Aker and her staff, Caris Health Care, Dr. John Mann, Mike Baines, Nurse Norma Frye, therapist, Gaye Daivs, special friends and caregivers, Heather McQueen, Makenzie Smith, Rose Harrison and Shannon Bradley. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Friday at Akard Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Evans Funeral Home in Chapmanville, WV with Minister Johnny Steele and Rev. Greg Dingus officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Mullins, Lewis Shepard, Glen Peyton, Danny Godby, Bernie Walls, Greg Mullins, Roy Justice, Eddie Hunter, Cameron Mays, Baye Farley and Ronald Garrett.
