Tony always greeted me with a smile, or a fake snarl, when I checked out at Food City. At first I was a little put off by his seemingly abrupt manner. As I got to know him better, I found him to be a most delightful fellow. I always enjoyed interacting with him and finding out what he was doing for the holidays or the weekend. The last time I saw Tony he commented on all the odd things in my cart, diapers, Mac and cheese, whole milk. He knew those were items I seldom purchased and we had a nice conversation about the grandkids coming to town. When I went to Food City the Monday after he died, I was disappointed that he was not at the register. I was looking forward to the teasing he would give me for buying food for six more guests who were coming to visit. Three different Food City employees stopped to tell me about Tony's death. I stood in the aisle and cried - such a shock and such a loss. Tony made my frequent trips to the grocery store a pleasure. He brought joy and cheer to my life. I can't go in the store now without feeling an enormous sense of loss. Please know that Tony was loved and appreciated by many, many people whose lives he touched every day. Peace to you and your family.
